One more painting
Amman, June 2016 This series of painting features a number of commercial items that reflect on painting as an artistic practice within the current age of commercial art production . Symbols such as mass-produced hat art composed using different world-famous painting genres, and reproduced as commercial copies. By doing so, Aya hopes to question the legitimacy and value of an artwork in relation to commercial methodologies of production. With this series, Aya produces a biased piece that challenges the academic foundation of painting, which dictate our assessment of an artwork. She hopes to further challenge the art critic's reception of the artwork, which she believes has little to add the artist's vision. |
This project were produced with support of Spring Sessions 2016.

City of cement
April- June 2015 Cement buildings wrapped in decorative stone, crumbling sidewalks, levels of cleanliness that vary along class lines or perceptions of "sophistication," missing public spaces.... The work consists of projected imaginings related to Amman--imagined events and spatial elements in a parallel city created by the artist as a sort of practical escape from the dissatisfying realities of the city's current existence.. This project were produced with support of Spring Sessions 2015.
